Take the stress out of travel

How many times have you stood on a street corner trying to find a good place to eat? We stare at our phones, reading review after review to decide on a place to eat. Only to discover the site we are using has reviews, not by a local, but by tourists just like us. How are we supposed to find those special hidden gems every local knows about?

How long have you spent staring at a ticket machine to figure out what is the correct ticket and fare that you should pay, only to find out later that there was a cheaper and better option. How frustrating and time consuming this is!

Have you ever walked in a beautiful medieval city looking at amazing buildings and facades and wonder what the significance of it is? You pull out your mobile device and scour the internet for any tidbit of information. As you finally find a site you're hoping has the correct information, you run out of data or simply can't fully trust what you are reading.

Now imagine your best friend lived in Munich. They were excited to see you and share with you all the amazing places, culture and food they have found and loved over the years. You never have to worry if a place was going to have amazing food and be a true locals destination. You don't have to worry about how to get around or what ticket to buy. Your friend knows all the tips and tricks. They share with you humorous and exciting stories about each place you go. Explain to you what each food item is on a menu, since many are not in your language or have terrible translations. This friend leads you to breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner at their favorite local places, with each one being better than the previous. Imagine a relaxing day from place to place stopping when and where you want devoid stress.

We at The Thirsty Historian strive to remove any and all stress from each day you are with us.

We at The Thirsty Historian understand how valuable your time is here.  That's why we provide experiences customized just for you. We take a wholly unique approach that provides the personalized touch so often missing in the industry.

Traveling allows you to see the world, but it can be expensive. We make sure you get the most out of every moment you are here in Germany's southeastern state, Bavaria, and its capital, Munich.

We care about what interests and moves you to visit this beautiful and amazing area. We specialize in, and are passionate about teaching war, medieval, local sites, and beer and brewing history in Munich and Bavaria.  This area is home to the two oldest breweries in the world, as well as has a tradition of brewing that dates back to the Bronze age. Come with us to delve into this truly exceptional world of beer and culture here in Bavaria.

From the major tourist destinations to the most intimate, local biergartens, with The Thirsty Historian you will get the most memorable, personalized and authentic experiences that last a lifetime.

The Munich Experience

The Munich Experience is one of the best ways to see the highlights of the city mixing beer, 3rd Reich/WWII and medieval history since most of the sites we will visit have multiple layers of history. As we will be together through meal time, one of our stops will be at a biergarten or a beer hall for snacks and a bier that we include in the price.

Current Beer Festivals In Bavaria

Oktoberfest might be the largest beer festival in the world but in so many of the cities surrounding Munich in Bavaria, there are so many small Beer Festivals and Volksfests. With 2-3 beer tents (or more), live bands, Liter mugs of the local fest bier, and lots of lederhosen und dirndls, you're bound to have a great time!

Come with us and explore one of these super fun and cosy beer festivals without all of the masses and the prices of the lodging of Oktoberfest. We are offering many excursions in 2022 in connection with these events. There are so many fun events and festivals in the area each year and we will be updating this page.
For now, here is a short list!

Oktoberfest is very fun but also the busiest time of the year and a huge event. You surely have seen nothing like it. We help take all the guess work out of the Festival by booking tables almost every day and conducting small, intimate group tours with no more than 10 people.
We can't wait to have a drink with you!
Beer Festivals
Our experienced guides have been running tours in Munich and Bavaria for 19+ years and are experts in German history and Bavarian culture. Rather than rigid and rigorous, we take a more self-directed, concierge approach to our tours. Our feedback and repeat business speaks for itself.  Contact us today and let us help you create memories. Prost!

Let's have a drink together soon.
